Marie Howell Powell

Reidsville -Marie Howell Powell, 89, of 171 Broadleaf Road, made the transition from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Sunday, May 6, 2012 surrounded by her loving family.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with Rev. Brent Bolick, Rev. Stephen Blair and Rev. Boyd Joyce officiating. The burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.Mrs. Powell was born on June 28, 1922 in Patrick County, VA and was the daughter of the late Isaac Howell and Mary Varner Howell Dunovant. She was a homemaker most of her life and also worked many years as a supervisor with the Rockingham County Opportunity Center. Marie was a faithful member of Bethlehem Methodist Church where she was very active in the church until her declining health. Marie loved to sing in the choir and singing is where she met her husband, Lawrence. She was a member of the Bethlehem Home Demonstration Club for over 50 years and a member of the ABWA. She loved gardening but most of all she loved her family deeply. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence W. Powell; sisters, Lucille H. Privette and Ruby D. Shelton; step-sisters, Eva D. Strader, Josephine D. Wray and Hazel D. Powell; step-brother, Claude Donovant ; son-in-law, David W. Lasley; grandson, Gregory "Greg" W. Lasley. She is survived by her children, Carolyn P. Lasley of Reidsville, Shirley P. Blalock and husband, Linwood of Durham, NC, William "Bill" L. Powell and wife, Ginger of Reidsville and Kaye P. Willard and husband, Kirby of Reidsville; sister, Evelyn H. Lynn of Reidsville, step-sister, Beatrice D. Faulkner of Tennessee; grandchildren, Kyle and Kody Willard, Tracey Bolick, Kevin Lasley, Christy Coghill, Brian Blalock and thirteen great-grandchildren.The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 8, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at her home.Wilkerson Funeral Home is assisting the family and condolences may be sent to www.wilkersonfuneral.com.
