Marietta Shelton Joyce

Reidsville – Marietta Shelton Joyce, 83, passed away peacefully Friday, January 2, 2009 at Penn Nursing Center after 17 years of illness. Funeral services will be held will be held 4:00 PM, Monday, January 5, 2009 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with the Reverends John Groff, Ronnie Warner and George Roberson officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens. Mrs. Joyce was a member of Thompsonville Baptist Church for approximately 58 years. She served as a faithful and devoted Sunday School teacher for 27 years prior to her illness. She retired from American Tobacco Company after 45 years of service. After her retirement she enjoyed traveling and bowling with her friends and family. She loved spending time and doing things with her grandchildren who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Stephen Shelton and Jettie Amos Shelton; a daughter, Betty Jean Joyce; brothers, Moir, Otis and Russell Shelton; son-in-law, David Earl Strader; and grandson, Timothy Dean Strader Mrs. Joyce is survived by her faithful and loving husband, Henry F. Joyce, Sr.; son, Frank Joyce and wife, Kathryn; daughter, Geraldine Joyce Strader; grandchildren, David Dwayne Strader and wife, Christine, Eric Stephen Strader and wife, Melany, Walter Franklin Joyce and wife, Amanda, MaryLynn Joyce Saunders and husband, Michael; great grandchildren, Holden Allen Joyce, Morgan Nicole Joyce, Christopher Dean Strader, Noah Aaron Strader, Sydney Rae Strader and David Lane Strader; brothers, Roy and Alvis Shelton and 10 nieces and nephews. The family will be at Wilkerson Funeral Home Sunday, January 4 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM and other times at the residence at 807 Johnson Street.
