Marion "Pete" Mitchell Snow

Marion Mitchell Snow, 95, known to her friends and family as “Pete”, went home to be with her Lord on January 8, 2024. She was the last link in our family to her generation and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dennis Chapmon officiating. The family will see friends one hour prior to the service from 1-2 PM. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens.

Pete was born in Rockingham County to the late William Pinkney and Mary Oakley Mitchell. After the death of her mother, she was adopted at age nine months by her older sister Carrie Baker, and husband, who raised her as their daughter along with their sons Numa and James Baker. Pete graduated from Reidsville High School and began her career at American Tobacco Company. She worked her way from the factory line to an office position as a payroll clerk. She and husband Horace had long and satisfying careers at ATC and established many lifelong friendships with coworkers. Pete was a faithful member of Baptist Temple Church and had many roles there in her lifetime, including Sunday school teacher and most notably as a greeter for services. Pete enjoyed traveling with family and friends to the mountains, coast and especially White Lake, where fond memories were created. She loved to bake and was known especially for her many and varied cakes which were eagerly anticipated at family gatherings. The host family was rewarded with the leftover cake! Her five flavor pound cakes were most wanted gifts!

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 45 years, Horace Snow; sisters, Carrie Baker, Catherine Carter, Esther Gammon, Marie Turner and Ruby Thacker; brother, Wilmon Mitchell;and “brothers”, Numa R. Baker, Jr. and James B. Baker.

Survivors include her nieces, Judy Krell and Shirley Mitchell Carver; nephews, Tommy Carter and Mike Clifton; great nieces and nephews, John Baker, James Baker, Reid Baker, Sally Baker Hopkins, Rick Baker and Bill Baker, and their families; special friends, Becky Shreve, Troylene Roberts, Gloria Barham, Ginger Strickland and Ellen Powell. Pete was also survived by her special friend Ronnie Peoples and his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army of Rockingham County, 704 Barnes Street, Reidsville NC 27320 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
