For us who have known and loved her, Marjorie Handy’s Life with us was unfairly brief - March 6, 1936 to December 7, 2018. Born Marjorie Louise Smith, she grew up in the Casville Community of Caswell County, NC, the daughter of G.R. Smith, Sr. and Louise Jones Smith. She was known as Margie to contemporaries with whom she attended Cobb Memorial School, UNC- Greensboro and back home, Bethesda Presbyterian Church.
After majoring in chemistry at UNCG she worked as a lab technician. Then Marjorie chose to be a stay-at-home Mom with the three children. Afterwards, she took up things fiscal and financial that she had long found interesting and spent a number of years with the IRS before settling on private tax-return preparation.
She was predeceased by her mother and father and is survived by husband, Wayne J. Handy, sons Christopher and Jeff and daughter Meredith Brunel (Richard); grandchildren Louise and Henri Brunel; Carlene, Charlotte, Eren and Matthew Handy; brothers Dr. G.R. Smith, Jr. (Mildred), William H. Smith (Carolyn), and J. Cecil Smith (Thyra).
Nieces and nephews thinking of Aunt Marjorie will recall heart-warming visions and events. She has brought smiles to the faces of many others with that special smile of her own – just one more thing that will live on with us who have known and loved her.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with inurnment to follow in Bethesda Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
