Martha Quinn Stone

Greensboro- Long time Greensboro resident and member of Guilford College Methodist Church Mrs. Martha Quinn Stone, 81, unexpectedly passed away peacefully and in good spirits Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Richland Place Assisted Living Community in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James (Jim) Stone. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Susan Stone Smith and her husband Troy; son, James (Bobby) Stone and wife Suzi Stone; granddaughters Holly Gordon and husband Jonathon, Jami Stone, and Jessi Stone; grandsons Garrett Smith, and Robert (Bo) Stone and wife Heidi; great granddaughter Peyson Gordon; brother Tom Quinn and his wife Harriet, and brother Robert Quinn and his wife Sandra; and many great cousins, family and friends. Born and raised in the Episcopal church in Wilson, NC, the daughter of Carl “Snappy” and Martha “Bumps” Quinn, Martha was always happy and full of life. She excelled in band playing the saxophone and loved to dance, especially with her parents and Jim. If she wasn’t at the theater or roller rink with friends, she was helping keep her younger brothers out of trouble, although she taught them to climb trees. She met Jim on the dance floor at Atlantic Beach then again to their surprise at East Carolina University, she studied mathematics, graduated with honors, and earned her teaching certification in 3 years. She and Jim married and moved to Roanoke, VA where they taught together at the local high school then again in Fuquay Varina. Jim started his career in computers taking Martha and Susan to SC where Bobby was born. They lived on Lake Hartwell. This was the beginning of their love of boating. Back to NC they went to live in Winston-Salem where Martha enjoyed being a Celebrity Jewelry Consultant. After moving to Greensboro, she discovered her passion, window treatments. She started her own business, Especially Windows, ultimately designing window coverings for 1000’s of home and business owners, all while devoting herself to her family, friends, schools, volunteer organizations, and the church. Now her family will lay her to rest on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Greenview Cemetery with Rev. Jeremy Troxler officiating. The service will be available graveside or in the vicinity of the burial by dialing into a local FM radio station supplied by the funeral home. In addition, a tribute wall and picture album will be available on the Wilkerson Funeral Home website.
