Marvin "Doug" Sams

Eden, NC – Rev. Marvin “Doug” Sams, Sr., 61, of 321 Dameron Street, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, June 20, 2008, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, June 23, 2008 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Cannard and Pastor Dwain Hill officiating. The burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites. Rev. Sams was born in Rockingham County to the late Roy and Ethel Sams. He was a veteran of the US Navy. He was the former owner and operator of Doug’s Auto Service in Reidsville for 18 years. He was also a Baptist evangelist and former pastor of Canaanland Baptist in Reidsville, Cornerstone Baptist in Reidsville, Guerrant Springs Baptist in Ruffin and Eternal Life Baptist in Wentworth. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy, Dillard, Michael and Pete Sams; grandmother, Rosie Knight; and grandchild, Marvin D. Sams, III “Trey”. Rev. Sams is survived by his wife of 44 years, Evelyn Wanda Hollifield Sams of the home; sons, Doug Sams, Jr. and wife, Rosemary of Suffolk, VA and Bruce Sams of Eden, NC; daughters, Ronda Goin and husband, David of Ridgeway, VA, Diane McNeill and husband, David of Eden and Donna Gaffney and husband, Pastor Mark of Stoneville; grandchildren, Amanda and Laura Denny, David McNeill, Jr., Mary Evelyn and Ryan Sams, Devin and Derek Gaffney, Mason and Mallory Sams and Kayla Goin; great grandchildren, Carleigh and Corey Stegall; brothers, Ed, Clayton, Steve and Tracey Sams; sister, Darlene Smith and special friend to the family, Beth Williams. The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Sunday, June 22, from 7-9 PM.
