Mary Ellen Cantrell

Mary Ellen Cantrell, age 65 of 1065 Gilliam Road passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2022 at her home.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Baptist Temple Church with Rev. Ryan Burris officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at 181 Kendrick Lane, Ruffin, NC. There will be a private burial at Reidlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Cantrell was born on April 29, 1956, in Rockingham County to the late Numa Wheeler and Rebecca Vernon Samuels. Nana, as she was called was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother, and a wonderful friend to many. Her hobbies included crafts, reading and cake decorating. Her grandchildren, church family, and her cat Leon was an important part of her life, and they will miss her greatly. Mary was a longtime and faithful member of Baptist Temple Church. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband William Franklin “Buddy” Cantrell; her son Robert “Boyd” Cantrell; and step father Richard “Jr” Samuels; and stepsister Joanne Samuels.

Survivors include her grandchildren Sklyer and RJ Cantrell. The family would like to give a special thanks to Sandy Black and all of the others that helped Mary when they were needed.
