Mary Elizabeth Rich Burton, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital in Reidsville, NC.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 1:00-2:00PM on Friday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM, on Friday, February 21, 2020, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with Reverend Jerry Evans and Reverend Mark Christy officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Mary was born on December 9, 1927 in Rockingham County to the late Rufus Ashburn “Sugg” Rich and Patti Elizabeth Smith. After attending Reidsville High School, she was employed by Burlington Industries from which she later retired. She also worked at First Methodist Church Daycare center for several years. Mary taught Sunday school and was active in the choir at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Mary was very active in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary serving for over twenty five years. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who had a generous heart and deep loving faith in her Lord, Jesus Christ. She always thought of others before thinking of herself and her family was most important to her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Turner Burton; son, James Lewis Burton; son-in-law, Billy Butler; aunt, Lillian Rich Law and Samuel Law who helped raise her; sisters, Connie, Carolyn, and Charlotte.
She is survived by her children, George Allen Burton, Patricia Ann Butler, and Amy Elizabeth Huber and husband Daniel; daughter-in-law, Susan Burton Morrow; grandchildren, Joshua Daniel Huber, William Cory Butler and wife Krystal, Allen Justin Butler and wife Jodi, and Melissa Burton-Moore and husband David; great-grandchildren, Chloe Huber, Sophia Huber, Olivia Butler, Allyssa Butler, Elijah Butler, Lucille Evelynn Moore, Faryn Deal, Landon Marlow, Oakland Huber, and Joslyn Huber; brothers, Jake Keller, Bud Rich, and Gordon Rich in addition to numerous extended family.
