Rock Hill, SC - Mary Daniel James, 99 year old resident of Westminster Towers died at the Wayne Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, SC on Tuesday, July 31, 2012.A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 4, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church in Reidsville with Dr. Douglas McLeroy officiating. The family will see friends following the service. A private interment will be held prior to the service at Greenview Cemetery. There will also be a memorial service held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday August 7, 2012 at Oakland Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill, SC. A reception will be held following the service at Westminster Towers.Born in Lynchburg, Virginia on October 21, 1912 to William Payne Daniel and Sara Clack Daniel, she was the youngest of four children and spent most of her life in Rockingham County. She was preceded in death by one sister, Annie Daniel Turner: two brothers, James Frederick Daniel and William Watt Daniel and two nephews, Guy Turner, Jr. and Rev. Alvis Montgomery Daniel.She was married to Jack James in 1939 and worked with him at the James Motor Company for more than 50 years. While living in Reidsville she served as President of the Pilot Club of Reidsville, President of The Women's Credit Association of Reidsville and as a Director in the Women's Credit Association International.Her membership in First Presbyterian Church of Reidsville was the center point of her life. There she served as President of The Presbyterian Women and was awarded Life Membership for her service. She was also a strong support and contributor to the church of her childhood and youth, Greenwood Presbyterian on the Narrow Gauge Road. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. James moved to Rock Hill, SC and became an independent resident at Westminster Towers. Her life was quickly filled with new friends, activities and opportunities to serve her community. She made Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church her church home in Rock Hill. There she was welcomed and loved by all who knew her.She is survived by Sara Elizabeth Turner: Frances and William W. Daniel. Jr.; Nancy Daniel Mallory; Faye Daniel; James Suitt; Nancy Jane Suitt; Sylvia James Walker and Betty James Slowinski. Her family would like to thank all who loved and cared for our beloved "Aunt Mary".
