Mary Apple Manley

Mary Apple Manley, 84, slipped peacefully away on Friday, April 9, 2010 at home surrounded by family and friends. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Elder John Wingfield officiating. Interment will follow in Apple Cemetery, Ashland Road in Reidsville, NC. Pallbearers will be Robert Wicker, Benny Manley, Randy Manley, Wallace McKinney, Terrell Apple and Jarrell Young. Mrs. Manley was born on July 7, 1925. She attended Cobb Memorial School and was a lifelong member of the Primitive Baptist faith. Mary was a homemaker in addition to working for local tobacco farmers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Elisha and Martha "Pat" Apple; siblings Eva, R.L., Everett and infant brother, Tommie. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Lawrence Thornton Manley of the home, her daughters Donna Gayle Neal and husband, Robert Lee, Mary Ann Pickrell and husband, William and Kay, all of Reidsville; grandchildren Robert Allen Neal and wife, Jennifer of Blanch, NC; Cameron Neal and Kenneth Neal, both of Reidsville; great grandchildren Emma Neal and Eli Neal of Blanch, NC, and Allison Neal of Reidsville. She is also survived by her sisters Nina Wicker and husband Talmadge of Sanford, NC, and Lela McKinney of Reidsville; brothers George Apple and wife, Shirley of Burlington, NC, and Tonnie Apple of Reidsville. The family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:30 PM on Monday, April 12, 2010 at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home, 3991 Ashland Road, Reidsville, NC. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the 3rd floor nursing staff at Annie Penn Hospital, Reidsville, NC; Hospice Palliative Care of Alamance and Caswell with very special thanks to Karen Robertson; and special caregivers and friends, Betty Woodell of Reidsville and Oleta Whitehead of Ruffin, NC.
