Mary Samuels Saunders

Mary Samuels Saunders, 92, passed away at her home in Reidsville on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

 A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Surrett officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, from 1:00-2:00PM. A private burial will be held at a later date at Reidlawn Cemetery.

Mary was born on February 7, 1932, to the late, Richard and Lois Samuels. She grew up on High Rock Farms in Gibsonville and later moved to Reidsville. She and her late husband were the owners/operators of Saunders True Value Hardware, Inc. Her passion for work never faltered as she served the Reidsville community in the family business for over 65 years. Mary always had a kind smile for everyone she met and will be deeply missed by those who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Glenn Saunders; sister, Vivian Apple; brothers, Paul Samuels, Bill Samuels, Junior Samuels, Johnny Samuels and Edgar Samuels.

Mary is survived by her two daughters, Debbie Ward and husband, Mike of Wilmington, NC and Renee Vollmer of Blowing Rock, NC; her grandchildren, April Ward, Michelle Kelly and husband Rory, Patrick Vollmer, Maria Ward, Ben Vollmer and wife Renee, Michael Vollmer and John Matthew Vollmer; her great grandchildren, Jack Kelly and Grace Kelly; sister-in-law’s; Peggy Saunders, Ann Samuels, and Judy Samuels in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
