Mary Horner Smith

Gibsonville, NC - Mary Horner Smith, 75, of 144 Brown Road, died on Friday, October 9, 2009, at the Hospice Home of Rockingham County. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Loftis officiating. The burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park in Burlington. Mrs. Smith was a native of Orange Co., NC and was the daughter of the late Robert Thomas and Nannie Lou Walker Horner. She was retired from Burlington Industries. She enjoyed crocheting and was an avid animal lover. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James A. Whitt and John P. Smith; her sons, James Edgar Whitt and David Nelson Whitt. She is survived by her sons, Donald W. Whitt and Mary C. Gaarn of Gibsonville, NC and John P. Smith, Jr. of Elon; her granddaughter, Tanya Rene' Chilton and husband, Jason of Reidsville; brothers, William Hawkins and wife, Polly, Lee Adams and wife, Carolyn, Lewis Adams and wife, Jenny; her sisters, Esther Landrum of Danville, VA, Carrie Barbee of Gibsonville and Margie Roach and husband, Virgil of Danville and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Monday, October 12, 2009, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and other times at the residence.
