Oregon Hill Road, died Saturday, July 19, 2008 at
her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, July 21,
2008 at Covington
Memorial Wesleyan
Church with Rev. Ralph
Clayton and Pastor Todd McDonald officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview
Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Marvin Dalton, Caleb
Pettigrew, Finley Teasley, Mark Stanley, Chris Stanley, Jason Robertson, Doug
Robertson, Marion Gwynn; honorary pallbearers, grandsons, James Daves, Joshua
Daves, Matthew Barrett; grandson-in-law, Ryan Call and Theodore Price.
Mary Alice, the oldest of seven children, was born in Rockingham County
to the late Joe Cobb and Minnie Pearl Barber Stanley and was a faithful member
of Covington Memorial Wesleyan
Church and touched the
life of everyone she met. She retired
from Sylvania
in 1983 and catered locally for over 20 years because of her love of cooking. She
was a devoted mother, loving and compassionate friend and enjoyed caring and
helping others that were in need. Her
charismatic love of life, her family, compassion for sewing, and gardening were
just a few of the many things she loved. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving
husband of 44 years, Orvice Edward “O.E.” Barrett; brothers, Joe, Bill, and
Mack Stanley.
She is survived by her sons, Larry E. Barrett and Anne W.
Barrett, Jerry F. Barrett and wife, Gwynn, Gary L. Barrett and wife Yvonne;
daughter, Tammy B. Daves and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Alicia Call and
husband, Ryan, Daria Barrett, Ginny Price and husband, Ted, Kelly Hines, James
Daves and Jenny Trent, Joshua Daves and Kim Isley, and Matthew Barrett;
great-grandchildren, Taylor, Julia, and Rebecca Price, Adrianna Pleasant and
Dylan Call, Kelsey and Autumn Hines; brothers, George Stanley and wife Nancy,
Jack Stanley and wife Joyce and Bobby Stanley and wife Rachel; special pets,
“Miss Jackie”,“Candy” and “Riley The Big Rottie”, numerous nieces, nephews,
cousins, close friends of Reidsville and The Oregon Hill Community, and
Covington Memorial Wesleyan Church Family.
The family will receive friends at Covington Memorial
Wesleyan Church Fellowship Hall Sunday, July 20, 2008 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. At other times, the family will be at the
residence.
