Mattie Irene Cox, 84, of Douglasville, Georgia passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018. A Graveside service will be held at Roselawn Memorial Garden with Rev. Harold Kallam officiating at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 27, 2018. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. Mattie was born in Rockingham County, to the late John Craig and Mary Corum Craig. She worked over 20 years for a Gospel Coalition nursing facility, serving the retired nun’s coming in from the mission field. She loved flowers, gardening, cooking and was a great home maker. She was a hard worker .When she was a young woman, she frequently worked 3rd shift and would come home to help pull and prime tobacco after being up all night. Her mischievous ways and warm smile will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years Howard Cox; daughter, Doris Bowman; Siblings, Dorothy Kallam, Howard Craig, Bobby Craig, Shirley Tilley and Joe Craig as well as a special friend Delores Vanderbuilt. She is survived by her sons, James and Donnie Bowman; siblings, James Curtis Craig, Lonnie Craig, Louise Harris, Barbara Pilot, Brenda Gladwell and Linda Stultz as well as two granddaughters, four great grandchildren and a large extended family.
