Michael Clay Hurd

Reidsville – Michael Clay Hurd, 54, of 300 Steamboat Drive, went home to be with the Lord after his courageous, 21 year battle with cancer on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Annie Penn Hospital. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Howard Owens and Pastor John Stewart officiating. Michael was born in Roanoke, VA. He attended Antioch Baptist Church and was formerly employed by Sid Harvey Refrigeration. He was a loving husband, father and son. Growing up, Michael loved boating at Hyco Lake. He was preceded in death by his father, William Clay Hurd and his sister, Beth Hurd Sipe. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Woods Hurd; his sons John Michael Hurd and Andy Michael Hurd all of the home; his mother, Nancy Saunders Hurd of Reidsville; his sister, Tammy Hurd Collins and husband, Jerry of Charlotte; his brother-in-law, Donald Sipe of Brown Summit; niece, Megan Sipe of Brown Summit; special friends, Kathy and Carl Spivey and his little dog, “Katie”. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all of Michael’s doctors, the staff of Annie Penn Hospital and special thanks to Chaplain Patricia Wright. The family will receive friends, one hour prior to the service and other times at his mother’s home (110 Stillwater Lane, Reidsville). In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Judes Children Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
