Mildred Louise Martin Sechrest

Elizabeth City, NC: Mildred Louise Martin Sechrest, age 87, passed away on November 10, 2015. Funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, 10:00 am, at Reidsville Christian Church, 2020 S. Park Dr., Reidsville, NC with Shannon Newsome officiating. The burial will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 13, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home, 1909 Richardson Dr. Reidsville, NC and other times at John and Pat’s home (245 East Plantation Circle, Reidsville). Mrs. Sechrest was born to the late Thomas A. Martin and Emma Smith Martin on Nov 20, 1927 in Surry County, NC. She married John Roy Sechrest of Pilot Mountain, NC, in 1947 and later moved to Reidsville, NC. After working as a machine operator at Zarn, Inc., she enjoyed babysitting children at her home. Mildred was a longtime and faithful member of Reidsville Christian Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir, ladies ministry, and encouraging youth and ministry students. Mildred moved to Elizabeth City in 2015 to reside with her daughter. She attended Journey Christian Church there. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John Roy Sechrest; grandson, David B. Sechrest; brothers, Wayne Martin and P. Ray Martin; and step-mother, Wanda S. Martin. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, John R. Sechrest, Jr. and Patricia P. Sechrest, of Reidsville, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Perkins and Dr. D. Clay Perkins, of Elizabeth City, NC; grandchildren, Kelly Revels of Huntersville, NC, Daniel Perkins of Huntersville, NC, and Dr. Benjamin Perkins of Elizabeth City, NC; great grandchildren, Evelyn Perkins, Ruby Perkins, Jacob Revels, Kamryn Revels, Greyson Revels, and Zachary Revels; sisters, Thelma Stevens and Mary Kiger of Rural Hall, NC; brothers, Aubrey Martin of Winston-Salem, Tommy Martin of Westfield, and Donald Martin of Mount Airy, NC; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Memorial gifts may be made to Reidsville Christian Church Building Fund, 2020 S. Park Dr., Reidsville, NC 27320, or to Mid-Atlantic Christian University Foundation, 715 N. Poindexter St, Elizabeth City, NC 27909, the “Mildred M. Sechrest Scholarship Fund.”
