Reidsville: Mitchelene Adams Martin, 85, a lifelong resident of Reidsville passed away
on Thursday, July 28, 2016 surrounded by her entire, loving family.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, (607 North Greene Street, Greensboro, NC 27401) with Rev. Susan Sherard officiating. There will be a reception for family and friends at the offices of Adam Electric, 401 North Greene Street following the service.
Mitch was a native of Rockingham County and the daughter of the late Mitchell and Myrtle Bramlett Adams.
She graduated from Reidsville High School and later completed her Bachelor’s Degree at Women’s College of Greensboro. She was a longtime and faithful member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Mitch served as past president and was a lifetime member of the Reidsville Junior Service League. Her CIVIC endeavors spanned over decades of service including the Reidsville Garden Club, the Annie Penn Foundation Board and was a member of the Pennrose Park Country Club. She was a passionate fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and she chaired the “A Better Way” Reidsville Campaign. Adams Electric Company was founded by her father, M.E. Adams in 1928, and upon his death in 1972, Mitch became president and CEO of the company. Since that time the company has grown to offices in Greensboro and Charlotte with over 400 employees serving 9 states on the East Coast. She was recognized as the Business Leader of the Year by the Reidsville Jaycees and the Business Woman of the Year by the Reidsville Chamber of Commerce. She attended horse races with her family and along with her sister; they enjoyed the Preakness Stakes over 50 times in a row. She was also a passionate and faithful North Carolina Tar Heel fan. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Johns Benjamin Martin, Jr. and her sister, Peggy Adams Tatarski.
Mitch is survived by her children, Johnnie Mitchelene Martin and Johns Mitchell Martin and wife, Barbara “Bobbie” all of Greensboro; her grandchildren, Stacie Dalton Hern, Nancy Virginia Dalton, Phillip Wayne Dalton, II and wife, Jamie, Joanne Harper Jones and husband, Hudson, Hillary Harper Molitor and husband, Chris, Thomas Kevin Harper and Catherine Duke Martin; her great grandchildren, Bailey Hern, John Phillip Hern, Caroline Dalton, Jane Dalton and Molly Molitor; sister-in-law, Frances Martin Saunders; seven nieces and nephews; special friends, Ella Keith, Sharon, Ackie, Shelly Ellington and all of the past and present Adams Electric family.
