Reidsville: Modean Hatcher Roberts, 75, of 712 Lawsonville Avenue passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at her home peacefully.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville with Rev. Sandy Brown officiating. The burial will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens.
Modean was born in Rockingham County on February 11, 1940. She was one of four children born to the late Willie and Ruby Hatcher and graduated from Drewy Mason High School in Martinsville, Virginia. In 1958, she met her husband of 56 years, Jessie “JacK” Roberts and they got married in Martinsville, Virginia June 13, 1959.
“Jack” and Modean bought their family home on Lawsonville Avenue in Reidsville in 1962 and raised their family there. Modean worked at Equity Meats from 1980 to 1992 and made many lasting friendships. Modean loved to cook, read, sew, and work with flowers around her house. Her favorite past time was spending time with her family. Modean was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Lee Hatcher.
She is survived by her husband, “Jack” and her three children, Robin Roberts (Nancy) of Greensboro, Jessie Roberts (Christy) of Reidsville, and Ronda Crews (Rocky) of Greensboro, and two siblings Frances Gustfason of Eden and Roger Hatchers (Judy) of Martinsville, Virginia. “Nana’s” four grandchildren Dusty, Willie, Jackson, and Cameron had a special place in her heart. She had a large extended family that included nephews, nieces, and cousins. She also leaves behind two dear family pets, Buddy and Katie.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 28, 2015 at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and other times at the residence.
