Eden: Dr. Nancy Bush Preas, 80, of 1125 Harris Street, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Morehead Memorial Hospital.A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 19, 2010 at Boone-Reynolds Chapel and the family will receive friends after the service in the chapel. There will be a private committal service at a later date.Dr. Preas was a native of Bedford, Virginia and the daughter of the late William Howard and Lucie Dennis Preas. She graduated from Women’s College of the University of North Carolina and was a registered dietician for the Eden City schools. She later received her Masters degree and PhD from N. C. State University in administration. After receiving her PhD she worked for the University of Georgia in Athens. Upon her retirement from UGA, she returned to the Eden City schools serving as the Vocational Director until the schools consolidated. Dr. Preas valued education and encouraged and facilitated many young people in their pursuit of higher education. She mentored countless young people and was the godmother to thirteen children. She was a long time member of the Church of the Epiphany and more recently attended Leaksville United Methodist Church. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Charlotte “Tot” Cogsdale and Josephine Bowman. Dr. Preas is survived by her niece Jocelyn Safrit and husband, Richard of Burlington; great niece, Lee Whitaker and husband, James and their son, Trey and great niece, Carrie Daniels and her husband, Ryan and their daughter, Hannahgrace and their son, Hunter; nieces, Brynja Bowman and Kelly Greenwood and husband, Wayne and their daughter, Helen; and nephews, Kim Boman, III and Rev. Michael Cogsdale and many friends.
