Reidsville – Nell Knight Taylor, 101, of 741 Camp Dan Valley Road passed away on February 4, 2014 at Annie Penn Hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, February 7, 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Robertson and Rev. Dave Huggins officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence. The interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
She was the daughter of the late John R. and Champ Mays Knight. Mrs. Taylor was born in Stokes County, NC. She lived in Rockingham County since early childhood. She was a graduate of Stoneville High School where she was very active in sports and achieved captain of her basketball team. In later years she attended Rockingham Community College.
Mrs. Taylor lived in the Wentworth Community since 1938. (She was very active in Home Demonstration work, which is now Extension Service. She served on various committees and held several offices.) Mrs. Taylor was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served as a teacher for her adult Sunday school class and was still teaching at age 95. She retired from Annie Penn Hospital as a certified nursing assistant. Her goal in life was to help others and be a good neighbor.
Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Captain John Raymond Taylor; a son, John Milton Taylor; two brothers, Sanford H. Knight and Sam T. Knight; sisters, Annie K. Strader, Lula K. Comer, Sue K. Simmons and Mildred “Johnnie” McDonald.
She is survived by her son, Douglas R. Taylor and wife, Jolene of Griffin, GA; daughter, Nancy Taylor Link and husband, Henry of Reidsville, NC; six grandchildren; John A. Taylor and wife, Maureen, James P. Taylor and wife, Michelle, Richard L. Taylor and wife, Angela, Tanja L. Taylor and husband, Dave, Patricia T. James and Jennifer Link Jay; seven, great grandchildren, Jeremy Taylor, Joshua Taylor, Cheyenne Taylor, Chad Taylor, Andrew Taylor, Arran Taylor, Taylor James and Maci James; great great-grandchild, Reagan Taylor and numerous nieces and nephews.
