Nellie Ward Hawkins

Reidsville: Nellie Ward Hawkins, 76, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2015 at Avante at Reidsville. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, June 8, 2015, at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. A.C. Palmer and Rev. Ralph Clayton officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Nellie was born in Rockingham County to the late Major and Sallie Wilson Ward and was a retiree of Carolina House. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Darlene Smith; brother, Lonnie Ward; sisters, Gracie Brannock, Novella Massey, Dora Bryant and Jewel Woodson and great grandchild, Trinity Lenora Smith. She is survived by her children, David C. Smith, Jr. and wife, Linda, Kitty Diane Turner and husband, Terry, Betty “Susie” Taylor and husband, Kirk and James “Jimmy” Smith and wife, Melissa; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother, Filmore Ward and sister, Ethel “Sissy” Baker. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, on Sunday June 7, 2015 at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home of Terry and Diane Turner, 105 Irvin Road. The family would like to thank the staff of Avante, Moses Cone Hospital, Annie Penn Hospital, Eden Cancer Center, Hospice of Rockingham County and Dr. Kyle Cabbell for the care given to Mrs. Hawkins.
