Norman Winfred Hunsucker

NORMAN WINFRED HUNSUCKER, SR. MCLEANSVILLE-- Winfred Hunsucker went home to be with his Savior on Friday, May 4, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. The family will receive friends at 2:30 on Monday, May 7, 2018, followed by a celebration of life service at 4:00 at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church, 7345 NC-61, Gibsonville, N.C. A graveside service will follow immediately at the church cemetery. Winfred was the eldest son of Norman and Annie Hunsucker. He was born in the Needham’s Grove area of Moore County near Robbins, N.C. on March 2, 1932. His family moved to Greensboro when he was ten years old. Winfred graduated from Rankin High School in 1951. Following graduation, he served two years in the United States Coast Guard. Soon after, he met the love of his life, Barbara Harrelson, and they were happily married for sixty one years. He was immediately adopted into the Harrelson clan and he loved Barbara’s siblings, Dexter and Frank Harrelson, and Marie Southern. Winfred was a man of earnest faith and was deeply devoted to his family. He loved the Lord with all his heart and graciously shared the love of Christ with all who knew him. Even in his last hours, he challenged his family to always show their love for one another. He was a member of Apple’s Chapel Christian Church and Couples for Christ Sunday School Class. He worked at J.A. King and Company as a sales representative, retiring after thirty-four years. He then spent twelve years working at Procter and Gamble in food safety. Winfred was one of the founding members of the Northeast Athletic Association. He coached Pony and Bronco youth baseball for 20 years and won two Greensboro City Championships. Winfred also volunteered at Fellowship Hall and Loaves and Fishes. He enjoyed traveling with Barbara, golfing with his sons and grandsons, and fishing with his granddaughters. Winfred was also an avid supporter of his grandchildren’s various activities. Along with his parents, Winfred was preceded in death by brothers Bill, Wayne, and Larry Hunsucker. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Harrelson Hunsucker, sons Win Hunsucker (Teresa) of Dawsonville, Georgia, and Joe Hunsucker (Lisa) of Summerfield, North Carolina. He was blessed with five grandchildren: Matthew Hunsucker (Rachel), Trey Hunsucker, Arielle Hunsucker, Brooke Crenshaw (Drew), Nicole Romeo, and great granddaughter Eleanor Grace Hunsucker. Memorials may be made to Apple’s Chapel Christian Church, or the charity of your choice. Wilkerson Funeral Home is assisting the family and condolences may be sent to www.wilkersonfuneral.com.
