Norman Lee "Hop" Hopkins

Eden, NC – Norman “Hop” Hopkins, 90, went to his heavenly home at 11:17 PM on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Dr Travis Dotson was brilliant, sensitive and gracious as he led us through Dad’s rapid decline! The nurses (Dee, Gabe, Meredith and Emilee) all loved and cared for him like he was their dad! Finally, God is so good and He orchestrated our last day together with precision and honor! We gathered around his bedside and the girls led us as we worshiped Jesus together as a family!! Pop was aware enough to mouth the words to the hymns...the Glory filled his room! We are already overwhelmed by the love and support we feel from our family and friends! Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM on Friday, November 10, 2017 at Osborne Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Griffith officiating. The burial will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors. Hop was a native of Rockingham County and the son of the late, Charlie David and Irva Ann Elizabeth Thompson Hopkins. He served his country during WWII in the US Army. He was a longtime and faithful member of Osborne Baptist Church where he served in the preschool department for many years and was affectionately known by all as Popa Hop. He was also known for singing “Happy Birthday” to every member in the church on their birthday! He retired from Fieldcrest Mills with over 45 years of service. Some of his happiest memories include camping with family and friends, waterskiing, dancing with “the doll”, playing cards calling out “Joker, Be with me Baby”, working on the farm and raising a spectacular garden. He was an avid sportsman enjoying fishing, hunting and all sports. His humble spirit rocked the nations of this world not by many words but by action, and his legacy will be felt for generations. Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by his son, Timothy Norman Hopkins, his 5 brothers, Herman, Truman, Bill, Jack and Paul Hopkins. Hop is survived by his wife of 63 years, Preston “Pep” Meeks Hopkins of the home; his daughter, Tami Nobles and husband, Jeff of Asheboro; his son, Ted Hopkins and wife, April of Reidsville; his grandchildren, Louisa Brown and husband, Zach, Caroline Nobles, Amelia Yarbrough and husband, Zachary, Currey Nobles and wife, Emily and Bess Hopkins; great grandson, Eli Allen Brown; sister, Clyden Hopkins Turner of Anderson, SC; numerous nieces and nephews and a large extended family. The family will be receiving friends at Osborne Baptist Church on Thursday evening from 5:00 till 7:00 PM and other times the family will be at the home. Hop requests that all memorial contributions be made to OBC Faith Factor Fund, 326 East Stadium Drive, Eden, NC 27288.
