Reidsville: Oid Clay Mayberry, 79, of 849 Lawsonville Ave., passed away on Monday, August 3, 2009, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM on Saturday, September 5, 2009, at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Mayberry was born in Pageton, West Virginia, to the late William Clarence and Clara Ayers Mayberry. Oid was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Piney Grove Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro, NC. He retired from the Employment Security Commission and also from the Air Force of 28 years as a Tech Sergeant. Oid served one term in Vietnam and was proud to have served his country. He loved the water so much that he lived on a house boat from spring until fall each year for the last 14 years. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings, Sheila Gail Mayberry, Melba Jones, Norris Mayberry and Dale Mayberry and son-in-law, Richard Taylor. He is survived by his daughters, Vickie Shelton and husband, Leslie, of Biloxi, MS, Sheila Burton and husband, Dale, of Lynn Haven, FL, Sandra Mayberry of Reidsville, Brenda Taylor of Pine Level, NC, Jessie Schmidt and husband, Joey, of Hendersonville, TN; grandchildren, Robby Edgerton and wife Ashley, Robin Edgerton, Courtney Mayberry, Nicholas Burton, Savannah Schmidt and Olivia Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Dylan Edgerton, Hayden Edgerton, Haley Edgerton, Carter Edgerton, and Weslee Dove. The family will receive friends following the memorial service until 9:00 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Foundation, 406 West 34th street, Suite 514, Kansas City, Missouri, 64111.
