Ora Knight Wright

Reidsville – Ora Knight Wright, 91, of the Midway Community, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2011 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Midway United Methodist Church and the burial will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Larry Scott and Rev. George Roberson officiating. Mrs. Wright was born in Rockingham County to the late Samuel Pinkney Knight and the late Maggie Lee Warren Knight. She was a longtime and faithful member of Midway United Methodist Church. She was employed with Big Apple Food Stores for over 20 years and later retired from Harris Teeter Food Stores. She also helped on the family farm. She proudly received her GED at 65 years of age. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. Because she had six brothers, she was nicknamed “Tom” as a child. Many of her nieces and nephews still lovingly and affectionately called her, Aunt Tom. She loved to bake and made many delicious cakes for her family and friends. Along with her parents, Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her husband, William Connie Wright; her son, Thomas Wayne Wright, Sr.; her daughter-in-law, Marion Wright; her brothers, Emery, Rufus, John, Walter, Buck and Sam Knight, Jr.; and her grandson-in-law, Douglas Smith. She is survived by her daughters, Becky Wright Johnson and husband, Walter of Ruffin, Marie Wright Dixon and husband, Steve of Summerfield and Martha Wright Stultz and husband, Keith of Eden; her grandchildren, Lorie Wright Pyrtle and husband, Craig, Debbie Wright Southard and husband, Calvin, Tommy Wright, Pam Johnson Tate and husband, Jeff, Wally Johnson and wife, Denise, Heather Dixon Green and husband, Dalmin, Scott Dixon and wife, Angela and Allison Stultz; great grandchildren, Jessica, Nicole and Alan Pyrtle, Sierra and Madison Southard, Dawson and Paige Wright, Farrah McKinney, Bonnie Smith Raver and husband, Nate, Tiffany Smith Easter and husband Brian, Lindsey and Laura Johnson, Maggie Dixon, and Katie and Abbie Green; great-great grandchildren, Autumn Butner, Justin Raver, Kaitlyn Jones and Eli Easter and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 7:00 – 9:00 PM and other times at Marie and Steve’s home (520 Glencoe Church Loop Road, Summerfield).
