Reidsville: Oren Benton Walker, 87, formerly of Rockingham Lake Road, died Friday, February 17, at the Rockingham County Hospice Home after a long decline in his health. A graveside service will be held at Reidlawn Cemetery at 1:00 pm Monday, February 20, with Elder David Underwood officiating. The family regrets that there will be no visitation. Oren was born on the Rockingham County and Caswell County line in 1924 to the late John Edward and "Molly"Apple Walker. He was one of eleven children. He graduated from Cobb Memorial High School in Caswell County in 1943. That same year he joined the Army Air Corps. Oren proudly served as an airplane mechanic in the Pacific in Japan and in the Philippines during World War II. He was also a member of the Jefferson Penn Masonic Lodge. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, gardening, and farming. In later years he loved walking and trapping with his constant companion, his white German Shepherd, the late Gabby, a gift from his daughter. Oren was a devout Christian, a Baptist, who has now gone home to his beloved Savior. Oren is survived by his daughter Dr. Victoria Walker Massey of Greensboro, his sister Helen Walker Rumley and husband Tom of Reidsville, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and in-laws. The family requests that, instead of flowers, donations be sent to the Rockingham County Hospice Home, P.O. Box 281 Wentworth, NC 27375.
