Browns Summit – Oscar “Lee” Hooper, Jr., 82, of 209 NC Hwy 150 E., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Beacon Place of Greensboro. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 14, 2013 at Friendship United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Drum and Rev. Randall Shaw officiating. Entombment will follow in Reidlawn cemetery with full graveside military rites provided by the Rockingham County Honor Guard. Mr. Hooper was born in Caswell County at the family home place and was the son of the late, Oscar Lee Hooper, Sr. and Arrie Pritchett Hooper. Lee as he was known to his family and friends enjoyed to farm the land that he loved so much. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Lee was a longtime and faithful member of Friendship United Methodist Church. He received several civil awards having been presented the Outstanding Young Farmer Award by the Reidsville Jaycee’s. Lee served on the board of directors for Soil and Water Conservation of Rockingham County, was a former member of the Reidsville Elks Lodge and Pennrose Park Country Club and he also helped organize the Williamsburg Fire Dept. Lee was a kind and loving man who was always willing to lend a hand to help others but he especially loved his family. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his son, John Lee Hooper. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anne Hooper of the home; daughter, Cheryl Rumley and husband, Darrell of Browns Summit; grandchildren, John Rumley and wife, Laura, Kevin Rumley and wife, Kandis, Matthew Rumley and wife, Judit and Jessica Estes and husband, Brian; great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Lucas and Kennedy Rumley; brother, Herbert Hooper and wife, Doris Jean of Reidsville; twin sister, Lois Barber of Elon. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Sunday, January 13, 2013 and other times at the home. Memorial contributions may be made in Lee’s honor to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.
