Otis Western Johnson

Ruffin- Otis Western Johnson, 78, of 9438 Hwy 700, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 10th, 2014, at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, NC. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lee Eggers officiating. The burial will follow at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites. A native of Rockingham County, he was the son of the late Harry Western and Lossie Hazelwood Johnson. He graduated from Ruffin High School in 1954 and served in the US Army in Korea. He was a licensed electrician and retired from the International Paper Company in Danville, VA in 2001 and also owned and operated his own business, Otis Johnson Electric Service. He was a faithful member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities. He also served as the chairperson of the Ruffin Fire Department for many years. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Cecelia Lane Johnson of the home; his daughters, Doris Ann Kendrick and husband, Randall and Debbie Johnson all of Ruffin; granddaughters, Hannah Kendrick of UNC-Wilmington and Rachel Kendrick of Ruffin; sister, Faye Lawrence and husband, Odell of Ruffin; and brother, Raymond Johnson and wife, Earlene of Reidsville. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Erma Johnson and one half-sister, Viola Johnson Hill. The family would like to thank Louise Pearman, his caregiver and Charlotte Brown of Aging, Disability, and Transit services of Rockingham County. They would also like to thank Dr. Xaje Hasanaj and the staff at Morehead Hospital for the outstanding care and support during Otis’s illness. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, December 12, 2014 at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
