Overs Samuel “Slim” Martin, 94 of 2305 Pine Lane, Reidsville, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family on Friday, January 18, 2019 at his home.
A service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Rev. Mark Christy and Honor Guard provided by Rockingham County Sheriff’s Department.
Slim was born in Stokes County to the late Sam Andy Martin and Pearl Shaffer Martin. He was a longtime member of Woodmont United Methodist Church and served his community in law enforcement and volunteer fire service. Slim loved working in his yard, tending to his garden and talking to anyone that would listen. His greatest love was his family. He retired from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Department with the call sign County 23, after 20 years of faithful service. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Alyne Dixon Martin and brother, Otha Martin.
He is survived by his daughters, Phyllis Briles and husband, Ken of Asheboro, Jan Lindsey and husband, Bill of Reidsville; grandchildren, Ryan Moore and fiancé Kristine Parks of Greensboro, Dr. Kyle Lindsey and wife, Dr. Christal Lindsey of Mocksville and Caroline Lindsey of Reidsville.
There will be no formal visitation. The family will receive friends at the Martin residence.
