Summerfield, NC – Paul Gyles Braxton, 74, died on Friday, May 8, 2009 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 11, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at Kallam Grove Christian Church, with Rev. Charles Vaughan officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites.
Paul was a native of Chatham County, and was born to the late Paul and Beulah Johnson Braxton. He graduated from NC State University with a degree in Textile Management. After completing the ROTC program there, he served active duty with the US Army entering as a 2nd Lieutenant and finishing his army career as a captain. Later he served many years in the National Guard. He retired from Cone Mills Corporation as an executive vice president with over thirty years of service. Paul was an avid sportsman, especially hunting and fishing. He also played on the NC State baseball team. He supported wildlife conservation efforts and was very active and supportive of the Boy Scouts. Paul’s priority in life was his family and his children and grandchildren all claim him as their hero.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Burke Braxton of the home; his sons, Paul E. Braxton of Greensboro, Kenneth G. Braxton and wife, Kelly of Charlotte and Philip E. Braxton and wife, Sheri of Greensboro; his grandchildren, Andrew and Ashley Braxton of Greensboro, Michael, Tyler and Lindsey Braxton of Charlotte and Catherine and Kirsten Braxton of Greensboro; sister-in-law, Sara Stultz of Eden; brother-in-law, Tommie Burke and wife, Ada Jo of Emerald Isle and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Sunday, May 10th from 7:00 –9:00 PM and other times at his residence.
