Peggy was born January 22, 1948, to the late Robert Taylor Cox and Dora Wilma Ware Cox. She was a lifelong resident of Rockingham County, and faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 65 years. Peggy was very involved in the church and directed the nursery for many years. In her last days she was comforted by visits from her sister, Betty O’Bryant, and sister-in-law, Sarah Matthews and ladies of the church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert “Bobby” Taylor Cox, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Calvin Matthews; sons, Kevin Clay Matthews and wife Shelby, Eric Taylor Matthews and wife Crystal; daughter, Michelle Matthews Turner and husband Clark, Sandee Matthews Key and husband John; grandchildren, Caroline Turner James and husband Jordan; Hannah Turner; Carson Key Taylor and husband Gavin; Taylor Key; Liza Key, Celia Braud Matthews; Caleb Matthews and Sadie Matthews. Brother, Richard Earl Cox and wife Linda; sister, Betty Cox O’Bryant and husband John; best friends, Sarah Matthews and Rachel Scott; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
