Phillip Kayden Griggs, 79, of 2692 NC Hwy 700, passed away on Saturday, August, 11 2012.Mr. Griggs was born in Rockingham County to the late Arch Holland and Maybud Hankins Griggs. Phillip was of the Christian faith and a member of Draper Christian Church. He was proud to serve in United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Griggs was the sole owner of Wolf Island Tackle Shop where he enjoyed making hand-made fishing lures. He worked for Dan River Inc. and then retired from Fieldcrest Mills Inc. Phillip was an avid fisherman that never lied about the catch.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Barney Griggs, Arch O. Griggs, James Griggs, Arch H. Griggs, Jr.; sisters, Abbey Hill, Katherine Griggs and JoAnn Lucas.Survivors include his sons, David Griggs and wife, Debra of Martinsville, Steve Griggs and wife, Debra of Ruffin, Arch L. Griggs and wife, Vanessa of LaGrange, GA; daughter, Phyllis Griggs of Ruffin; grandchildren, Joshua Maurer and wife, Mary, Adam Maurer, Jennifer Rowland and husband, Derrick, Diane Willard and husband, Mark, Michael Griggs and Jared Griggs; five great-grandchildren; brother, John "Pete" Griggs and a very large extended family.The family will receive friends at the home of son, Steve Griggs, 8775 NC Hwy 700, Ruffin from 4-6 pm on Sunday, August 12, 2012.Memorials may be made in Phillip's honor to the Hospice Home of Rockingham County, P.O. Box 281, Wentworth, North Carolina 27375.There will not be a formal service.
