Phyllis Blankenship Pruitt

Phyllis Blankenship Pruitt, 82, of Ruffin, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023 at UNC Rockingham Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 9, 2023 at Dan River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Travis McGuirt officiating. 

Phyllis grew up in Danville, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Clarence Hughes Blankenship and Melba East Blankenship.  She graduated from the University of the North Carolina at Greensboro with a B.S. and Master of Arts in Education. She was an English Professor at Rockingham Community College and retired with 30 years of service. After retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband. Phyllis loved literature, classical music, and most of all spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Lee Blankenship.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, F. Reid Pruitt, Sr.; son, Reid Pruitt Jr. and wife, Tasha; daughter, Amy Pruitt and husband, Frank.
