Reidsville – Ralph Roscoe Williams, 99, of Penn Nursing Center, formerly of Harrison Crossroad Loop, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Rockingham County Hospice Home.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, November 5, 2010 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stephen Blair officiating. Interment will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery with military graveside rites performed by the Rockingham County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be members of the Rockingham County Honor Guard.
Mr.Williams was born in Rockingham County to the late William Martin and Cora Lee Shular Williams and was a former co-owner of Rockingham Realty Company and retired construction worker. He was a US Army veteran serving in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe receiving the EAMET Campaign Medal with 4 bronze service stars, the Meritorous Unit Insigna and the Good Conduct Medal. He was also a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Rockingham County Honor Guard, serving as Chaplin and a charter member of the Rockingham County Veterans Park Association. Being very crafty with wood work and as a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Mr. Williams contributed in the construction of the pulpit furniture and a cross in which the congregation still cherish. Being a faithful contributor and attendee of Rockingham Community College, he studied wood working and computer science and enjoyed applying his knowledge in both. Those who were fortunate enough to know this “Great Man” will truly miss him. Others who have preceded Mr. Williams in death are his wife, Mary Lillie Williams; sisters, Mary Lettie King, Lucy Williams Stone and Lillie Williams Harvey and two brothers.
Survivors include his sister, Arlene Griffith and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank the staff of Penn Nursing Center for the care and concern shown to Mr. Williams during his stay there.
