Durham: Ranjan D. Bhashyam-Tambe, 65, passed away on Thursday, October 30.
Ranjan was born in Bombay, Maharashtra on October 22, 1949, and grew up in Baroda, Gujarat. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1971 at the age of 21 to pursue her Masters of Library Science at North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC. After graduating, she began with the U.S. Army as a librarian in 1978. Ranjan was stationed in Germany for 18 months before relocating to London, U.K. for a year, after her marriage to Damodhar Rao Bhashyam. The couple moved to the U.S. in 1982, and lived in different cities across the country until 2005. In 2005, Ranjan decided to retire in Durham, where she started life in the U.S.
Ranjan worked at different universities and with the Federal government across the country, and had a very successful and fulfilling career. Before retiring, Ranjan was a library director with the Navy, based in Alameda County, California. She is survived by three sisters and their families. Ranjan’s four nieces and one nephew were extremely fond of their aunt and remember her as an intelligent, well-traveled, and hardworking person.
Funeral services will be held November 2, at 12:00 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville.
