Richard “Dick” Boyd Pruitt, a beloved husband, father, brother, coach, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend passed away on October 27, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unforgettable memories. Dick embraced life fully, sharing his passions and wisdom with all who knew him.
A beloved coach, Dick taught more than just the rules of the game; he instilled values of resilience, teamwork, and dedication. His influence extended beyond the field, impacting the lives of countless young people who looked up to him as both a mentor and friend.
He graduated from Ruffin High School, and Elon College. He owned his own construction business where he earned a reputation for integrity and hard work, building not just structures but lasting relationships within his community. Previous to his work in construction, he was a high school teacher who taught history and government. Dick’s love of life was also reflected in his taste of music, which was filled with the sounds of George Strait, John Denver, The Eagles, and Jimmy Buffet, providing the perfect soundtrack to his life’s journey.
Dick’s family was his heart. As a father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he was ever-present, cheering from the sidelines, offering guidance, and sharing stories that will be cherished for generations. He found joy in life’s adventures, from beach trips and skiing expeditions to tending his garden. Whether traveling to new places or spending time outdoors, Dick filled each day with enthusiasm and warmth.
In every role he held, from husband and father to coach and friend, his legacy will live on in the lives he touched. He will be remembered for his kindness, his love for life, and the profound impact he had on all who knew him. His memory is a testament to a life well-lived and a spirit that will be missed deeply.
In addition to his parents, Taylor and Lucille Pruitt, Dick was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Tate, and brothers Bobby Pruitt and Billy Pruitt.
