Richard Maurice Roberts, 83, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Moses Cone Hospital. A Graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Reidsville with Rev Johnny Roberts officiating. Visitation will follow the service at the graveside. Maurice was born in Rockingham County, on January 18, 1935, to the late Richard Frank Roberts and Ruby Carter Roberts. He graduated from Wentworth High School in 1953. He excelled in sports and played on his high school basketball and baseball teams and even played some semi-pro baseball. One of his favorite sports was playing golf. He retired from Sears Roebuck after 38 years of service. Maurice was a member of Guilford Baptist Church for 50+ years where he served in many various capacities. He will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones. Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife and childhood sweetheart of 63 years, Betty Fretwell Roberts; his son Stephen Roberts and wife, Cathy of Oak Ridge; and granddaughter, Olivia Roberts. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 English Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001; American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231.
