Robert Ray Apple

Robert Ray Apple, 82, passed away at his home on Saturday, January 27, 2018. A funeral service will be held at 3:00PM on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Jones officiating. The family will see friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 1:00-2:45PM prior to the service. A private interment will be held after the service. Ray was born in Rockingham County to the late Robert Edward and Sally Pinnix Apple. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he maintained radar defense while stationed in Goose Bay Labrador. There he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He retired from Golden Belt with 32 years service, the last 9 years being plant manager. Ray was an avid fisherman and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Eddie Apple and Dean Apple. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mary Alice Apple; son, Robert Ray Apple, II and wife, Teresa; daughter, Trina Apple and significant other, Frank Vera; grandchildren, Robert Ray Apple III and Mary Elizabeth Apple; sister, Agnes Wall and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517.
