Robert Elwood Durham

Robert Elwood Durham, 93, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at Gibson House in Reidsville.

Funeral services will be held at Wilkerson Funeral Home, on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at 1:00PM with Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 12:00-12:45PM, at the funeral home and other times at the family home. Burial will immediately follow the service at Reidlawn Cemetery.

Robert was born on February 23, 1929, to the late Martin and Fannie Durham in Rockingham County. He was an honorable and humble man who was always available to help anyone in need. Robert never met a stranger and was a great ambassador for several clubs and organizations that he was associated with. He was a lifetime member of the Oregon Hill Fire Department, member of the Antique Engine Association, the Olympic Athletic Club, and the Greenwood Presbyterian Church. He worked as a Truck Driver at American Tobacco for over 37 years before he retired. Robert’s passions included camping, gardening, and making molasses. Robert’s personality and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his grandson, Chase Durham; brother, Henry Durham and wife Evelyn.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Gracie Ann Durham; children, Julia Spangler (Tim), Mark Durham (Leslie), Tracy Durham (Stephanie); grandchildren, Taylor Spangler (Cara), Caitlin Spangler (Allen), Justin Durham, Ethan Durham (Micah), Hunter Durham (Sydney), Rachel Durham; great-grandchildren, Sadie Spangler and Calvin Spangler; brother, David Durham (Susan); in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
