Robert Joyce Hooper

Reidsville - Robert Joyce Hooper, 84, died at his home on June 8, 2013. After graduating from Reidsville High School in 1947, Robert attended UNC Chapel Hill from 1947 to 1953 with a Masters degree in English and was Phi Beta Kappa in 1950. He received a Fulbright Scholarship to study French in Lyon, France from 1953 to 1954. Robert taught French at various universities, including Duke, University of Oregon and University of North Dakota. He studied Ancient Greek at the University of Washington and in 1958, attended the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, Greece. After extensive traveling, he taught English at Bosphorus University in Istanbul, Turkey and also taught English at the Turkish-American Association Language School and was there for several years. Robert returned to Reidsville in 1997. He was preceded in death by his parents, Madge Kemp Hooper and Archie Boyd Hooper, and half brother, William W. Hooper (Dorothy P. Hooper). He is survived by David A. Hooper (Emma Sue) Archie Boyd Hooper, Jr. (Ginny), Judy H. Sizemore, all of Reidsville and Walter M. Hooper of Oxford England. There will be no formal visitation.
