Robert Henry Smith, Jr., affectionately known as Bob, 73, of Reidsville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 7:27 PM at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC.
Born on June 3, 1951, in Reidsville, he was a lifelong resident and had resided at High Grove Long-term Care for the past year.
Bob was a man of diverse interests and a kind heart. He proudly served his country in the Army, joining in 1974 with a deep desire to serve. He attended school in Reidsville and later embarked on a career with Swift Transportation, where he excelled as both a truck driver and a diesel mechanic. He was a self-taught expert in vehicle mechanics, a skill he took immense pride in.
Outside of his work, Bob found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing at Washburn Lake and had a lifelong passion for muscle cars and racing. He was a devoted Earnhardt fan, always eager to watch the races.
Bob will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and playful sense of humor. He was a creative soul, always finding unique ways to express himself. His knowledge of mechanics was vast and he was always willing to share his expertise with others.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Henry Smith, Sr. and Evelyn Gray Smith; his sister, Judy Kaye Smith.
A memorial service to celebrate Bob's life will be announced at a later date.
