Rodney Stewart Phibbs

Rodney Stewart Phibbs, Sr., 82, journeyed home to be with His Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 27th. Mr. Phibbs was at home and surrounded by his family and loved ones. Mr. Phibbs was preceded in death by his wife Wanda, his mother, Lillie, his beloved daughter, Martha Ruth and his sister, Daphne Jones. Mr. Phibbs is survived by his daughter Jane Rainey and husband, David of Greer, SC; his son, R. Stewart, Jr. and wife, Donna of Pickens, SC; his daughter, Mary Saunders Powell of Summerfield, step-son, Blair Gardner and wife, Gloria of Mocksville, NC. and sister, Louise Cary of Summerfield. Mr. Phibbs was the proud grandfather of six and great grandfather of four. Mr. Phibbs dedicated his career to the service of his country as a member of the United States Air Force; retiring in September of 1970 as a veteran of both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. Both Mr. and Mrs. Phibbs were long-time, active members of the First Congregational Christian Church in Reidsville. The funeral service will be held at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 30th at 1:40 pm with graveside services and Military Honors at Mt. Bethel Christian Church immediately following the service. The family will receive visitors from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Rockingham County Hospice, The Oxford Orphanage in Oxford, North Carolina or the First Congregational Christian Church Food Pantry.
