Madison: Rose Frances Howerton Newton, 86, of 515 Massey Creek Road, died on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.A memorial service will be held at 3:30 PM on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.Mrs. Newton was born in Rockingham County to the late Wharton William Howerton and Mary Smith Howerton. Frances was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and being very religious she spent a lot of time reading her Bible. She was a very social person and kept herself occupied by reading, sewing, working puzzles, cooking, music and even tried to learn Spanish in the last 3 to 5 years. She enjoyed rock collecting and had even purchased a metal detector to hunt for meteorites. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Taze Newton; sisters, Ethel Howerton and Estelle McClintock.She is survived by her son, Steve Brentwood Newton of Sarasota, FL; grandchildren, Kelly Dawn Newton and her daughter, Lainey, Jennifer Marie Newton and Samantha Dawn Newton; nephews, Mark McClintock and wife, Sarah of Madison, Larry McClintock and wife Sally, of Bluefield, VA; niece, Chris Hardiman and husband, Robert of Sandy Ridge, NC.Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, P.O.
