Roy Amos Shelton

Reidsville – Roy Amos Shelton, 90, of 632 Cook Florist Road, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Annie Penn Hospital.Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Wilkerson Funeral home with Rev. Michael Tillman, Rev. John Groff and Rev. Tim Butcher officiating. Interment will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery with military graveside rites.Mr. Shelton was born in Rockingham County, NC to the late William Steven and Jettie Amos Shelton. He was a veteran in the US Army/Air Force serving during WWII. He was a heavy equipment operator working as a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Mr. Shelton was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed attending several different churches. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was always fun and a true jokester. He was a member of the American Legion, Jefferson Penn Masonic Lodge #384 AF&AM and the Moose Lodge. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Rickman Shelton; his son, Roy “Sonny” Shelton, Jr.; his brothers, Moir, Russell and Otis Shelton; and his sister, Marietta Shelton Joyce. He is survived by his daughter, Mira Shelton Shropshire and husband, Jimmy of the home; his son, Tim Shelton and wife. Mardene of Reidsville; grandchildren, Tamara Vernon of Reidsville, Derek Vernon of Ridgeway, VA, Tonya Motta and husband, Brian of CA, and Ryan Shropshire and wife, Jessica of Dover, DE; great granddaughter, Jaiden Shropshire; brother, Alvis Shelton, numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Virginia Richardson and Haley Porter.The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM and other times at the home.
