Reidsville – Mrs. Ruby Odessa Roberts Yelverton, 97, passed away at Friend’s Home Guilford on New Garden Road on February 8, 2015. A funeral service will be held at Lee’s Chapel United Methodist Church on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Carol Williams-Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in Lee’s Chapel Church Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at Lee’s Chapel UMC at 1:00 PM. Mrs. Yelverton was born on August 18, 1917 in Rockingham County to the late George Toliver Roberts and Lottie Lewis Forbes. For many years, she was employed by the Greensboro City Library as a librarian. She was a long-time member of Lee’s Chapel United Methodist Church which she generously supported. She graduated from Rankin High School in 1934 as Valedictorian. Ruby was an exceptional penny-poker player at Friends Home at Guilford and was the first resident to have their own iPad and big-screen TV. In addition to Ruby’s parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Yelverton; brothers, Tom, Numie, Clarence, Jesse, Bryce, George, Jr, and Gilbert Roberts; and sisters, Annie Scott and Molly Mark. Mrs. Yelverton is survived by two sisters: Ethel Pardue and husband Harold, and Dot Pardue and husband Jack; numerous loving nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to the Lee’s Chapel United Methodist Church, General Fund, 2303 Lee’s Chapel Road, Greensboro, NC 27405.
