Reidsville, N.C. – Rufus Gordon Manley, 82, of 1602 Pecan Road, died on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the Hospice Home of Rockingham County. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at College Park Baptist Church with Rev. David LeGrand officiating. Burial will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery with Military Rites. Pallbearers will be Eric Kennedy, Jimmy Williams, Barrie Williams, Mickey Manley, Brian Manley, Steve Manley, David Manley and Bennie Manley. Gordon was born in Rockingham County to the late Lawrence Franklin and Minnie Lynn Manley and was a member of College Park Baptist Church. He was a maintenance supervisor for Rockingham County serving as a facilities project manager. He served in the U.S. Army and was an avid gardener and loved to cook. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Myrtle Boyles Manley; brothers, William Russell Manley, Lawrence Thornton Manley, Herman Elwood Manley and John Webster Manley. He is survived by his wife, Kowinna “Kay” Beeman Manley of the home; son, Randy Gordon Manley and wife, Mollie; grandchildren Lauren Manley Hearn and husband, Gregory, of the US Marines, Leslee Morgan Manley and Rebekah Leah Shelton; stepchildren, Eric Kennedy and Stephanie Kell, step grandchildren Tolana Kell and Robbie Overby; brothers, Clarence Willard Manley and Charles Wayne Manley; and sister Velma Manley Crumpton Cobb. The family will receive friends Monday, April 18, 2011, at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and other times at the residence.
