Ruth Allen Moore

Ruth Allen Moore passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Moses Cone Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Cochran officiating. Burial will follow at New Lebanon Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00PM.

Ruth was born on July 9, 1935, to the late Richard and Una Allen. She retired from Lorillard Tobacco after many years of service. Ruth enjoyed many years at Smith Mountain Lake, fishing on the pontoon. She was an avid Atlanta Braves and Duke Basketball fan. Her favorite hobby was crocheting making many different gifts for everyone that she knew. Ruth also loved holiday gatherings with her family whom she loved dearly. She was known by all as “Memaw” no matter how old you were or if you were actually one of her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Benjamin Phillip Moore; siblings, Mildred King, Sally Shelton, Claude Allen, Robert Allen, Rachel Dowdy, James Allen and one infant brother, Ronald Allen.

Those surviving include her son, Harold Moore (Mary Jane) of Summerfield; daughter, Rhonda Middleton (Tim) of Stoneville; grandchildren: Jennifer Bradley (Matt), Phillip Moore (Jen), Greg Middleton (Valerie) and Erin French; great grandchildren: Olivia Bradley, Rachel Bradley, Levi French, Will French, Finn Middleton and Pierce Middleton; brother, Thomas Allen; sisters, Hilda Shore and Sarah Smith.
