Ruth Gwynn Hawkins

Greensboro –Ruth Gwynn Hawkins, of 3008 New Hanover Drive, died on Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Wilkerson Funeral Home.   Interment will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Hawkins was born in Chester, SC on November 10, 1921 to the late Sydney E. Gwynn and Sallie Shreve Gwynn.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Blake Hawkins. Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Blake Norris and husband, Henry of Greensboro, Carole C. Barnes and husband, Robert of Ft. Myers, FL; sons, Alfred Steven Hawkins and Robert Gary Hawkins of Reidsville; 3 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sisters, Grace Ross of   Greensboro, Thelma Talley and Doris Watkins of Reidsville; brothers, Henry Gwynn of Reidsville, Joseph Gwynn of Arrarat, VA; sister-in-law, Alice Gwynn of Fieldale, VA,( wife of her deceased brother, Jesse Gwynn).   She will be greatly missed and always loved.   Visitation will be at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Friday, January 4th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.   The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. James Hockrein and Dr. Douglas Shaw.   Memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Foundation, 5960 Dearborn, Mission, KS 66202 or the American Heart Association, 202 Centreport Drive, Suite 100, Greensboro, NC 27409.
