Ruth Gammon Howell

Ruth Gammon Howell, 88, passed away March 3, 2017 at Avante Rehabilitation Center. A funeral service will take place Monday March 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Bill McKinney officiating. Burial will follow at Happy Home Church Cemetery. Ruth was born in Rockingham County to the late Silas Lester Gammon and Mary Hooper Gammon. She worked and retired from the furniture industry. Ruth was a great wife, mother and grandmother. She will be loved and missed by her family and numerous friends. She spent her early married life working for the US Army in Germany from 1946-1949 and was one of the highlights of her life. Along with her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husbands, Samuel Edward Handy, Sr and John Lawson Howell; six brothers and five sisters. Ruth is survived by her sons, Samuel Edward Handy, Jr and wife, Christine of Reidsville, Ronald Handy, Terry Howell and wife, Robin of Reidsville, Steve Howell and step-son Danny Howell and wife, Terrie of Wilmington; grandchildren Katherine Howell, William Howell, Christopher Handy, Craig Handy, Stephanie Howell, Dillon Howell, Erin Howell and Stephanie Dawn Stanley; and two great grandchildren. Visitation for family and friends will take place Sunday evening, March 5, 2017 from 6:00 till 8:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home of Ed Handy and Terry Howell.
