Ruth Moore Schoolfield Smith

Reidsville: Ruth Moore Schoolfield Smith, 91, of 2062 Iron Works Road, passed away Friday, January 23, 2009 at Rockingham County Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 26, 2009 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard DeHart officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jamie, Jason, Jonathan and Jonathan Mason Evans, Marty Schoolfield and Blake Eudailey. Mrs. Smith was a native of Rockingham County and a lifelong member of the Monroeton community. She was born on February 14, 1917 to the late James Hicks Moore and Nellie Duggins Moore. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husbands, Thomas Schoolfield, Jr. and Robert E. Smith and a grandson, Thomas “Sonny” Schoolfield, IV. She was the oldest living member of Faith Baptist Church in Reidsville and was the last living member of the Hicks-Moore family of eight brothers and sisters and five half brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Thomas Schoolfield, III, Gary Schoolfield, Deborah Evans, Johnny Schoolfield, Sr. and Kathy Schoolfield; two step daughters, Jeanine Fulp and Hazel McCain; seven grandchildren; four step granddaughters; nine step great grandchildren and several step great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Sunday, January 25th from 7:00 – 9:00 PM. Other times the family will be at the residence. The family would like to express their appreciation for the kindness and care given to her at the Rockingham County Hospice Home.
